Client Focus: Debra Foscolo and James Foscolo

Home Instead Senior Care located in Orlando, Florida has been caring for seniors and helping them stay in their own home in Orange and Osceola Counties and Central Florida since 1996. In 2003 Debra and her brother James became the proud owners of this existing Home Instead Senior Care.

Debra and James grew up in Upstate NY and always had a close relationship with their grandparents. When their grandfather’s health began to decline it became apparent that he needed more help with everyday tasks. Their grandmother cared for him for as long as she was able but eventually her health was becoming an issue due to the strain of caring for herself and him. Debra and James wanted to help their grandparents because they had always been there for them – from babysitting to school performances. Debra and James began to spend alternate weekends with their grandparents and they saw first hand everything involved with caring for them. They did the grocery shopping, ran errands, vacuumed and dusted the house, did the laundry, helped manage their bills and helped care for their dog. They noticed that their grandparents were not only grateful for the help around the house, but what they enjoyed most was the companionship they received from their grown grandchildren. Together, they enjoyed playing cards, watched TV with them, and most important was simply listening to them reminisce about their lives. With this extra care James and Debra were able to keep both their grandparents in their own home and living together for longer than anyone originally thought was possible.

As time moved forward their grandfather’s Alzheimer’s disease progressed to a stage where he needed nursing care. James and Debra were inspired to work with seniors because they saw what a difference it made in their grandparent’s lives and they knew not everyone was able to care for their aging loved ones the way they were. After receiving their undergraduate degrees they both moved forward with their education and each received Master’s Degree in Long Term Care Administration. And both became licensed Nursing Home Administrators. They each worked as administrators for 5 years prior to moving to Florida. We have dedicated our entire careers in serving the aging population. Together with their team of CAREGivers Debra and James are able to enrich the lives of so many seniors in their community; they agree that it is truly rewarding work.
